Chapter Twenty-Eight

“But It was then that I realized how much Daniel could love someone.”

Eve’s words had been repeating itself inside my head for the past four hours, and it would’ve been fine if it wasn’t doing it at the fucking crack of dawn.

I stared at the ceiling.

All these sleepless nights and barely calm evenings were getting quite exhausting, and I actually considered myself as a night person.

Yanking the blanket over my head, I roughly turned to my side and shut my eyes tightly. Watch me sleep through this.

Shit. It was cold.

As a cold breeze passed by, I rubbed my shoulders with my hands to try and keep them warm as I mindlessly strolled through the forest.

Ten minutes ago, I was in bed, all warm and bundled up. For some reason, my brain decided it was a great idea to stroll through the forest with this freezing temperature and wearing nothing but a thin pair of pajama pants.

I was crazy.

I stopped in front of a big tree and rested my forehead against the trunk. I shivered when the cold breeze passed by again, making me ask myself why I didn’t at least bring a jacket with me.

“How surprising to see you here.”

I whipped my head to the side, and I almost groaned out loud at the sight of another vampire within a breathing distance from me.

I came to the forest to be alone and think my way to exhaustion.

Not this.

“What are you doing here, Nathan?” I asked, my voice slightly trembling because of the cold.

“I should ask you the same thing.”

I gritted my teeth. Instead of answering him, I just shook my head and walked away. If I argued with him, it would only lead to nowhere. I would much rather waste my energy painting.

“Are you cold, princess?” He suddenly appeared in front of me, making me halt.

“Stop calling me that,” I hissed at him.

I watched his mouth curl up into a smirk. Rolling my eyes at him, I started walking towards the other direction, but he followed me.

I bit my lip to prevent myself from lashing at him. Instead of biting his head off, I turned around and gave him a sarcastic smile.

“What do you want, Nathan?” I asked. Though it pretty much came out as a low growl than a decent question, who cared.

“Oh, so you know my name.”

“No shit. I’ve mentioned it twice already.” I glared at him.

He stared at me with a raised eyebrow.

Getting no response from him, I just started walking again and praying that he would just go away.

“Surprised to know that you’re still staying with him.”

I ignored him and kept walking.

This isn’t getting you anywhere, Ava. Just breathe and think positive. Think about the shit you gotta finish within the week.

Yes, happy thoughts.

“Just so you know, princess, he’s gonna turn into a monster soon.”

I stopped walking and faced him, ignoring his pet name for me.

“What?” I asked, my jaw clenched.

Think fucking happy thoughts.

“I like you, being feisty and all.”

“You don’t know anything about him.” I crossed my arms, a scoff leaving my lips.
